Classic Rock 98.3 THE TWINS Radio Station Honored by Radio Peers

BEND, OREGON -- Only one radio station in Oregon receives the Radio Station of the Year award. This year that radio station is KTWS-FM, Classic Rock 98.3 THE TWINS. The award is given annually by the Oregon Association of Broadcasters (OAB) to the radio station in the state that best exhibits the unique and compelling combination of public service, wit, news, and originality.

Classic Rock 98.3 is owned by Combined Communications, a locally operated media company. A bastion of rock-n-roll, with loyal followers known as “Twinsters,” Classic Rock 98.3 THE TWINS is anchored by KC & Ron, local jocks who rock listeners with loud music and edgy humor. In the latest Arbitron report, THE TWINS garnered the #1 rating for men and adults in the coveted 25-54 and 18-34 age groups.

KC & Ron Mornings was also acknowledged by the OAB as Oregon’s best morning radio show, awarded to the most engaging and impressive entertainers during one of the most important windows of radio time: the morning drive.

Topping off the accolades for THE TWINS, program director Ron Alvarez received the OAB Heritage Award for lifetime achievement in Oregon radio. He has been the program director and Morning Show host for the station since 1995 and first teamed with partner KC Caldwell in 1996. They have been morning radio staples in the Central Oregon market for well over a decade.

General Manager Mike Cheney said he is tremendously proud of THE TWINS air staff as well as the many talented people behind the scenes who keep the four radio stations of Combined Communications vibrant and compelling. “There are 129 radio stations in the state of Oregon, so to be recognized by our peers, the Oregon broadcasters, is very gratifying,” he said.

Combined Communications radio stations also received several other awards during the Oregon broadcasters annual conference, including:

• Best On-Air Personality or Team: KMTK-FM, Country 99.7 The Mountain for “The Morning Buzz” with Steve & JT.
• Best Investigative News reporting: KBND-AM, Newstalk 1110 KBND for their Take Five segment, “About Skanska.”
• Best Uniquely Oregon radio program produced by station: KLRR-FM, Clear 101.7fm for “World Music with Randy,” which airs at 11:20 a.m. weekdays with host Dori Donoho.
• Best Station Image Promotional Announcement: “License to Win” produced by KMTK-FM, Country 99.7 The Mountain’s Cate Crowley.
